Scientific name: Prunus serotina
Common names: Cherry, Black Cherry, American Cherry
Presence of small tight knots sap streaks and pitch pockets.
Color: Heartwood varies from a light pinkish brown to a dark reddish brown when freshly cut, darkening to a deeper golden brown with time and upon exposure to light. Sapwood is a pale yellowish color.
Expect some sap wood and heart wood together on the face and the back. Usually, this is not a problem because Cherry is very easy to stain to very rich colours.
Very much appreciated for cabinet doors, furnitures and cabinetry because of its extraordinary finishing qualities.
