    Red Oak quarter cut:

    The usual expression “quarter cut” or “quartersawn” refers to the way boards are cut from a log. Quarter sawing yields boards with straight striped grain lines and with a  greater stability than flatsawn wood.

    Scientific name: Quercus Rubrum

    Common name: Red Oak, Northern Red Oak, Champion Oak

    Color: Heartwood is a light to medium brown, commonly with a reddish cast with variations depending on the origin.

    Présence of pin knots.

    Quartersawn lumber has a grain with a straighter and thinner appearance.

    Présence of pin knots and “flakes”

    Commonly used to produce cabinet doors, cabinetry and traditional furniture.
